Cleaning and disinfecting are not the same, however, both can lower the risk of spreading infection. The CDC defines cleaning as: "The removal of germs, dirt, and impurities from surfaces. Cleaning does not kill germs, but by removing them, it lowers their numbers and the risk of spreading infection." Disinfecting is defined as "Using chemicals to kill germs on surfaces. This process does not necessarily clean dirty surfaces or remove germs, but by killing germs on a surface after cleaning, it can further lower the risk of spreading infection." In order to stop the spread of COVID-19, the flu virus or the common cold you must do both - clean first then disinfect with an EPA registered disinfectant. Always follow label instructions when using any cleaning product.
The CDC recommends cleaning and disinfecting in order to help stop the spread of disease.
The CDC recommends cleaning often touched surfaces frequently. Tables, doorknobs, light switches, handles, desks, toilets, faucets and sinks are prime examples of the surfaces to be cleaned often.
