Spring is finally here! You know what that means – it’s time to do a good old fashioned deep clean. Just the thought can be a little overwhelming, and it’s easy to overlook some things around the house. Here are a few things that you might be forgetting to clean:
Things You Frequently Touch
Take a moment to think about all of the things around your house that you touch daily, but wouldn’t normally cross your mind when it comes to cleaning. Doorknobs, handles, keys, credit cards, remotes, and game controls, to name a few. You pick up and touch these thing every day, regardless of how clean your hands may or may not be. There could be all kinds of germy build-up just waiting to be cleaned!
What’s the point in cleaning if you’re using dirty tools? Your broom, mop, and vacuum need a little TLC too! Keeping your cleaning supplies clean will make the rest of your cleaning that much more effective. It’s really easy to soak your broom and mop in a bucket with some water and dish soap, and your vacuum filter can be washed in the dishwasher. There’s no reason to skimp!
We’re talking more than just your stove-top and oven, here. What about your refrigerator? When was the last time you unplugged it, emptied it out, and gave it a good scrubbing? Food expires in there all the time – tossing it out isn’t enough to keep the interior clean. And while you’re at it, go ahead and make sure that your microwave, toaster, coffeemaker, and all other countertop appliances are clean, too! And of course, don’t forget the dishwasher!
Keeping in mind that you should only use clean tools to do your cleaning, don’t you think the loofah in your shower could use a good clean? It’s a breeding ground for mold and bacteria since it lives in such a damp place. Toss it in the washer with a load of laundry – but don’t put it in the dryer. Hang it up instead. You really should be doing this about once a week, so don’t just save it for spring!
There are other random things that you surely have just lying around the house that probably don’t get much consideration when it comes to cleaning. Your iron may need refreshing, your fans (both ceiling and oscillating) may need a thorough wipe-down, and your window sills and door frames may need dusting. And if you’re part of the reusable-grocery-bag clan, you should probably toss those bad boys in with the laundry.
